How the Library Can Aid Your Language Learning

The word "welcome" written in a variety of languages forms a heart.

All kinds of opportunities, from new friendships to new occupations, can be opened by learning a language. The library is here to help if you want to brush up on your language abilities or learn a new one. We provide a large assortment to suit your unique aims and tastes, ranging from tangible materials available for checkout to online databases and learning tools. Although language learning books and software might be pricey, we at the library don't believe that cost should be a barrier to your success. There are several cost-free options for you to start speaking two languages tomorrow.

1. Books

When learning a new language, books are a fantastic place to start. We provide everything you need, including grammar manuals, translation dictionaries, and even resources for travel and culture.

2. Language CDs

A well-liked approach to learning a new language is through audio classes. On CD, you may borrow a few of our beginner and intermediate series. There are more than 15 languages represented in our area of non-fiction audiobooks, including English, Spanish, French, German, Polish, Arabic, and Japanese.

3. DVDs

We now offer DVD courses in a variety of languages if you prefer lessons you can watch. They may be found in our collections of DVDs for kids and adults.

As you can see, there are many possibilities available to you at your local public library when it comes to learning a new language. Visit us if you need assistance locating these resources or if you have any queries.

Discussion Partners

Do you need to practice having conversations when learning a new language? Meet a native speaker at the library and have a conversation or talk to language teachers online via a learning portal. You may get tutoring English online here -  https://livexp.com/skills/english. Practice your language abilities in a relaxed, uncritical setting. We will make an effort to pair you up with a discussion companion, whether English is your second language or not. We get together at the Bowman library branch on the third Thursday of the month.

Please don't give up if we don't yet support your language.
